Founders Day of Service is an alumni-led service initiative centered on聽Founders Day, May 5, and taking place anytime between聽May 1鈥�6, 2026. It honors the moment 海角直播 Denver was created to serve its community by inviting alumni to give聽back in聽meaningful, practical ways,聽wherever they live.聽

Whether you serve on your own, join a local group, or聽participate聽in our on-campus project, your service聽continues聽the legacy that has defined 海角直播 Denver since 1963.聽

Why Founders Day Matters

On May 5, 1963, at 11:56 a.m., the Colorado General Assembly passed House Bill 349, officially creating Metropolitan State 海角直播. Envisioned by Colorado legislators鈥攎ost notably State Representative Roy Romer, often considered the 鈥渇ather鈥� of 海角直播 Denver鈥攖he university was founded to meet the needs of Colorado鈥檚 urban workforce through accessible, inclusive higher education.聽

From its earliest days on the Auraria Campus, 海角直播 Denver embraced a 鈥渟treet-smart鈥� approach rooted in opportunity, access, and service. Founders Day of Service is a modern expression of that same commitment.聽

What is Founders Day of Service?

Founders Day of Service is a flexible, alumni-led opportunity to serve your community during the聽May 1鈥�6聽service window.聽

• Alumni choose how, when, and where they serve聽

• Projects may be individual or group-based聽

• Alumni can organize service activities in their own cities聽

• The initiative is anchored by an on-campus service project in partnership聽with聽Denver鈥檚聽Food for Thought聽program聽and culminating with a service opportunity at the 30th聽annual Latinx graduation celebration.聽

What Counts as Service

Service is any meaningful action that benefits others or the community.聽

This may include:聽

• Volunteering with a nonprofit or community organization聽

• Organizing or聽participating聽in a cleanup or donation drive聽

• Mentoring or supporting students or youth聽

• Helping neighbors or community members in need聽

• Skills-based service connected to your profession聽

Whether you serve for one hour or a full day, individually or with others鈥攊t counts.聽

Those who register will receive a聽Founders Day of Service hat or t-shirt聽to wear while serving.聽
