Micah Battson, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition at Metropolitan State University of Denver. He earned his B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles, an M.S. in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a Ph.D. in Food Science and Human Nutrition from Colorado State University. His graduate research focused on vascular dysfunction associated with aging and metabolic disease, which fostered a strong interest in nutrition, chronic disease prevention, and the role of lifestyle factors in promoting health.

Since joining º£½ÇÖ±²¥ Denver in 2018, Dr. Battson has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses, including Introduction to Nutrition, Macronutrients, Micronutrients, and Sports Nutrition. His teaching and scholarship emphasize nutrition and chronic disease, nutritional biochemistry, and sports nutrition, with a focus on helping students understand the relationship between nutrition, health, and human performance. He is committed to student success through mentorship, serves as faculty advisor for the Nutrition Nerds Journal Club, and supports graduate students through their capstone research projects.

Dr. Battson’s current research interests include backcountry nutrition and outdoor health. In collaboration with Dr. Melissa Masters, he is examining the nutritional adequacy of backpacking meal plans and exploring factors that influence nutrition knowledge, health behaviors, and dietary challenges in backcountry settings. Through his teaching, mentorship, and research, he is dedicated to advancing nutrition education and preparing future nutrition professionals.
