As our summer term wraps up, we’re taking a moment to reflect on how our Accounting Roadrunner Community has so far spent this summer season. From professional development and conferences to travel, relaxation, and time spent recharging before the fall term, here are a few snapshots from our summer:
Our faculty remained busy throughout the summer term, with six faculty members and five affiliate faculty teaching 11 sections across nine courses, including five undergraduate and four graduate course offerings. In addition, some accounting and MPAcc students are putting their knowledge and skills to the test by earning credit towards their degrees for an approved accounting internship.
To beat the heat, a group of our current and former Principles of Accounting I faculty took a break from their busy schedules and enjoyed a relaxing summer get-together.
Many in our Accounting Department team also took advantage of the summer season to enjoy some well-deserved time off and explore new destinations both across the U.S. and abroad. Letitia Pleis traveled in her RV to several FIFA World Cup host cities and even attended a World Cup match, Amy Cardillo rode a camel in Giza, Kelsey Dworkis explored Paris by sidecar tour, and Lauren Shaffer took in the breathtaking views of Cliffs of Moher. Here’s just a glimpse of their adventures. We can’t wait to hear more stories at our first department meeting of the fall!
Our Accounting Roadrunner Community was also well represented at the COCPA Educator’s Conference this summer, both in attendance and on the program! Faculty members and alumni participated in-person and virtually, sharing insights and learning from peers across the profession. Accounting alum Cherish Morris served on the panel discussion, The Changing Road to CPA: Impact on Firms, Educators, and Candidates, while MPAcc alum Alexis Hulsebos presented From Classroom to Close: Preparing our Students for Day One. We’re looking forward to bringing fresh ideas, perspectives, and best practices from the conference back into our classrooms and programming this fall.
To celebrate the final week of summer classes, we hosted an MPAcc Social for our graduate students enrolled in summer courses. It was a great opportunity to step outside the classroom, catch up with one another, and celebrate another successful term together.
Amid summer classes, travels, conferences, and social gatherings, we also spent time meeting with our students for academic and career advising. With the extended July 30th deadline to submit a complete Fall 鈥�26 MPAcc application, we鈥檝e also been busy talking with MPAcc applicants in 1-on-1 meetings and virtual events. One of the highlights of the summer has been getting to know our current students better, welcoming newly admitted students, and meeting future Roadrunners.
As we enjoy these last few weeks of summer, we鈥檙e prepping for the fall term and can鈥檛 wait to connect with our Accounting Roadrunner Community in upcoming engagement opportunities we鈥檙e planning inside and outside the classroom. Stay tuned!
