Description:听Students in this course will assess, analyze and critique current cyber laws and regulations as they relate to cybersecurity and cybercrime and U.S. and state court cases addressing cyber laws and regulations violations.听 Students will interpret the legal aspects of forensic computer science, privacy issues, constitutional protections, and will employ related state, federal and international laws and regulations.听 Students will also identify and differentiate the challenges in the investigation and prosecution of cyber criminals as well as the constitutional issues applicable to the presentation of cybercrime evidence. Students will explain the ramifications of legal and ethical implications created in cyberspace.

Description:听Students in this course will conduct an in-depth analysis on investigative processes related to deconstructing and disassembling crimes and terrorist activities committed in cyberspace. Students will examine how traditional investigations of crime and terrorism have each evolved through the use of technology and digitalization to include using computer systems as both tools for crime and targets of crime. Students will also explore and define the various roles of law enforcement in investigating cybercrime and cyberterror, facilitating relationships with other organizations, and managing cybervictimization.

Description:听Students in this course will explore the theoretical causes of cybercrime at the graduate student level.听 They will analyze key criminological theories as they pertain to hacking, piracy, theft, and harassment carried out through the Internet.听 The characteristics of criminal behavior will be examined using empirical evidence in order to theoretically explain the central causes of Internet crimes.

Description:听This course is an introduction to information system infrastructure. The focus of this course is on data communications and networks. Discussion covers layered network architectures and communication hardware. Emerging technologies such as social media, mobile computing, cloud computing, big data, SCADA, and the Internet of Things are examined. The basics of application security such as SQLi and the OWASP top-ten list are introduced.

Description:听An introduction to the security concepts needed for the design, use, and implementation of secure voice and data communications networks, including the Internet. A brief review of networking technology and standards (including an introduction to Internet communication protocols) is provided. Description:听This course builds an understanding of information technology from a management perspective. Students develop an understanding of the links between information technology, business strategy, business process management, and organizational management dynamics. Three main themes are emphasized: the current market for IT capabilities and services, ways to gain competitive advantage by using information technology to enable new value-enhancing strategies and business models and products, and understanding how managers should specify, source, deploy, manage and support their information technology assets and infrastructure.

Description:听This course provides students with the background and skills to manage information systems security incidents while minimizing impact on business operations. The covered topics include detection, investigation, and response to different types of cyber security incidents. They will recommend processes for possible incidence response that adhere to operational, regulatory, legal, and organizational compliance.

Description:听This course examines the principle areas of information assurance in an enterprise environment. Topics will include protecting networks, intrusion detection, monitoring, and supervisory control and data acquisition. The course surveys the broad fields of enterprise security and privacy, concentrating on the nature of enterprise security requirements by identifying threats to enterprise information technology systems, access control and open systems, and organizational structures for managing information assurance.

Description:听Students in this course will complete a graduate research project. Students will integrate the knowledge acquired on the institutions policies and practices of computer information systems, computer science, and criminal justice. In this senior project, students will synthesize both academic and technical components to address real-world cybersecurity and management issues.听听 Students will emphasize a security conscious system and best practices of software development and testing to tackle complex issues facing the industry.

Description:听 Students in this course will demonstrate the skills learned at Metropolitan State University of Denver with experience working in the field of cybersecurity. Students will gain hands-on experience related to their field of study by integrating classroom learning with the acquisition of meaningful knowledge in an applied work setting. Through direct coordination, performance and formulation, students gain an understanding of an assigned agency鈥檚 work, mission, and client, and how these potentially relate to their individual academic study, and the agency鈥檚 position in the broader industry or field. Students will produce a critical evaluation on their internship experience demonstrating how they have addressed specific learning goals.

Substitution: Students may use the course as a substitute for CYBM 5002 Theories of Cybercrime.

Academic Credit: Students may secure internship opportunities either independently or through the Classroom to Career Hub (C2Hub). In either case, they must apply for the internship through the C2Hub to receive academic credits. Students who are already employed may also use a promotion, a new position, or new learning opportunities that include working under a different supervisor at their current workplace to fulfill the internship requirements.

Yes! We have students in our program from a variety of backgrounds; having a cybersecurity, computer science or computer information systems background is definitely helpful as our program can be quite technical, but we offer introductory classes that can help bridge the gap somewhat if you feel that you need to gain more knowledge (i.e. CSS 2751 Principles of Cybersecurity).

The CYBM program consists of 36 credits.

Internships are optional and students can substitute CYBM 5002 Theories of Cybercrime with the internship. To receive academic credit for an internship (CYBM 6000) students must have 18 completed credit hours and permission of faculty.

CYBM 6000 Internship in Cybersecurity Course Description:听Students in this course will demonstrate the skills learned at Metropolitan State University of Denver with experience working in the field of cybersecurity. Students will gain hands-on experience related to their field of study by integrating classroom learning with the acquisition of meaningful knowledge in an applied work setting. Students enrolled in the CYBM program are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to complete the degree.

A term GPA falling below 3.0 will result in an academic warning. If a student鈥檚 cumulative GPA drops below 3.0 in any term, the student will be placed on academic probation.

Students who do not restore their cumulative GPA to 3.0 or above after completing 15 additional credit hours will be dismissed from the CYBM program.

No grade lower than a “C” will count toward the degree. Students receiving a “D’ or below will be required to repeat the course.

Transfer Student Admission Guidelines

A maximum of six (6) semester hours of graduate-level transfer credit may be applied toward the CYBM program. To be eligible, credits must have been completed within six (6) years prior to the term of admission and earned at a regionally accredited U.S. institution or an equivalent international institution.

Acceptance of transfer coursework is subject to the discretion and approval of the Department Chair. Each course submitted for transfer consideration must carry a grade of 鈥淏鈥� (3.0) or higher.

To request a transfer credit evaluation, applicants must email the Cybersecurity Program Manager and submit an unofficial transcript along with the corresponding course description via .

We offer flexible evening class options (asynchronous online, synchronous online, hybrid in-person, hyflex) to complete the Master of Science in Cybersecurity degree. Most classes are held in the evening, after 5 p.m.

Description of Course Delivery Methods

Asynchronous Online: Instructional activities are facilitated online with no required scheduled meeting times. Assignments and assessments take place on a specific schedule. There are no location-specific requirements.

Synchronous Online: Instructional activities are facilitated online at scheduled times through live virtual meeting technology.听 There are no location-specific requirements.

Hybrid In-Person: Instructional activities are facilitated through scheduled in-person sessions and either A) asynchronous online instruction, or B) scheduled meetings using live virtual meeting technology.

Hyflex: Instructional activities are facilitated through: A) In-person class meetings; B) asynchronous online instruction; and C) online instruction using live virtual meeting technology. Students have the flexibility to choose between in-person, asynchronous, and live virtual instruction throughout the course.

Yes, we have full-time and part-time options. Do keep in mind that classes are only offered once a year, so the part-time option means it will take you much longer to complete the program. In addition, most classes have prerequisites and are sequential in nature. For part-time enrollment, please contact the Cybersecurity Program Manager for more information.

For the 2025-2026 academic year, the cost is $550.00 per credit hour (resident) and $725.00 per credit hour (non-resident) for a total of 36 credits (plus fees).
